How an Engagement Typically Works
1. Initial Consultation
A conversation to understand the matter, what evidence already exists, and whether the engagement calls for investigation, expert witness work, reputation cleanup, or some combination.
2. Scope & Engagement Letter
A written scope of work outlining deliverables, timeline, and fees, so expectations are clear before work begins.
3. Investigation & Documentation
Evidence capture, technical analysis, and documentation, following the methodology described on the methodology page.
4. Reporting or Reputation Work
Delivery of an expert report or declaration for litigation matters, or execution of a reputation cleanup plan for non-litigation engagements.
5. Testimony (If Needed)
Deposition and trial testimony for litigation matters where expert testimony is required.
How Fees Work
Fees are engagement-specific and depend on scope: whether the matter requires expert witness services (typically billed hourly, consistent with standard expert witness practice), a defined investigation project, or an ongoing reputation management retainer through Hartzer Consulting. Specific rates and estimates are provided after the initial consultation, once scope is understood.
